Today was my first day at the wildlife center! It was a crazy day to begin work because there was something very exciting happening. Bobcats, which were an extinct species in Ohio until now, had been brought to the wildlife center and they were being tagged today. Due to this, my sponsor was unable to help me out. She kind of just shoved me out into the world of the wildlife center and told me to help with something. I decided to help some of the college interns in the nursery. There were so many cute baby animals everything from baby bunnies to baby killdeers. I helped feed them and clean their cages. It was incredible.
I then worked with the other seniors who are doing their project at the center to care for the turtles and learn more about the permanent residents at the center. I really enjoyed this but it was sad to hear about all the injuries of these birds.
Today was tiring and hectic but I learned a lot and had fun. I never realized how much it takes to rehabilitate and care for these animals. I was very surprised to say the least.
Thanks, Lauren!
