Well, the second day of project has come and gone, and to be honest, it was really productive! Tomorrow we (Brett and I) will be hosting a track 101 session for a group of younger kids. This means that we have to somehow scrounge together enough child-sized bikes to allow a whole group of students to ride at the same time (Not an easy task considering the recent vandalism, and our lack of assembled children's bikes). So, i started (and ended) my day by sitting in front of a stand, reassembling, and fixing any small issues on our stable of children's bikes. This meant rewrapping the bar tape (and getting rid of any sticky left over residue from the previous duck taped bars o_O), making sure that every wheel was true, and had a tire that would hold air, and tightening every chain so there was no slack, and no risk of an accidental dropped chain (due to the fixed gear aspect of the bikes, a dropped chain means the rider has no ability to stop the bike, and must pray that he or she doesn't go sliding off of our track).
Not only were we suffering from a lack of assembled and prepared bikes, but we were also missing a ton of parts. My other job for the day was to go and search the surrounding area's bike shops for pedals, bart tape, and shoe restraints. Luckily i was able to find enough to finish our entire stable of children's bikes, and start to fix the remainder of our adult sized bikes. Lastly, i had to make sure every bike was clean, so the kids wouldn't be covered in grease, and smoke/soot while riding tomorrow. My once white shirt is now a nice mix of black and grey, but hey at least the bikes look good!
Attached are two pictures of my workstation for the day (the area in the background contains all of the rental bikes at the track).
